How to make social media work for you - Cairns
Tourism Queensland invites you to join representatives from Google, YouTube, Trip Advisor and Facebook for ‘Qtalks’ QTalks will provide you with an opportunity to hear directly from these organisations about why their websites are important to the tourism industry and how you can maximise the use of these sites for your business. This program will include presentations from each individual company and conclude with a panel discussion. QTalks is ideal for owners, managers, supervisors and team leaders of frontline tourism businesses including tours, accommodation, travel and booking agents as well as dining and retail businesses.

From the First Muster June 2011
Below is an overview of the ideas we brainstormed and the goals we completed. Many ideas have been brought forth and will continue to develop as our project progresses. Pictures of the weekend are also up! Enjoy!
Goal: To further enhance the website via
- Looked at many ways of how to organise and categorize events into different regions/states aiming at specific organisations and how they can get involved
- Connected to all social networks - facebook, twitter, tumblr, flickr, delicious, eventfinder, meetup, wikipedia, youtube channel
- Created a facebook event to become friends with FestLinx
- Database of networks has been created
- Promoting festlinx through social networks
- Youtube channel: many uploaded video links related to creative community gatherings, how to set up a music festival, festivals and other arts based and inspiring clips
- Accessible audio and visual components integrated in our youtube channel and soon to be the main page of Festlinx
- Contact info for festlinx has been set up with a direct email and address to be reached at
- Contacted wet - work exchange team - volunteering - application form - hoping to become partners
- Compiled sites of articles under "Your Linx" in categorized sections: Organisers, Production, Volunteer, Event Management Support and Tips, Grants and Funding, Community, Conferences, Production and Festival Set Up, Event Planning, Related Photos and Videos, Drugs and Alcohol Community Events (Policies, Article, etc.), Festivals and Disability Accessibilty
- Created space for discussion boards / blogs - specific areas - rideshares, info links, tours, musical interests, artist bios
- Addressing all people involved in festlinx - volunteers, participants, vendors, ticket buyers, etc.
- Created a PDF - teaching guide - how to become a member and add input to the festlinx site
- Looked into addressing rules - drugs, no glass, sustainability - no trace camping, compost, recycling
- Addressed ticketing and getting in touch with paypal links and accessible internet payment methods

Festlinx.org is for organisers, performers, production people and volunteers to access information, resources and participate in discussions. It is also designed to support the ongoing development and management of community events by providing support and up to date information for organisers and their crews.
